Al Dahra unveils ambitious sustainability goals

Al Dahra has published its second sustainability report on its environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance during 2021. The report covers Al Dahra’s operations in the UAE, Romania, Serbia, Egypt and Europe (Spain and Italy). The group has ramped up its efforts to establish itself as a multinational agribusiness with a sustainability-driven approach. The climate crisis and the pandemic have driven Al Dahra to expand its efforts towards meeting sustainable goals.

Al Dahra, a prominent fruit grower

Al Dahra specialises in the cultivation, production and trading of animal feed and essential food commodities, with fresh fruit making up a sizeable portion of its business. “Each year, we produce, source and supply 150,000 tons of fresh produce,” said Aisha Alafifi, special projects director. The group’s fruit is marketed under its Soleo, Fresco, and Jana brands. Al Dahra offers a wide range of citrus, of which 25,000 tons are grown in Egypt. The group also has 310 acres of orchards in Serbia, where 500,000 trees provide 10,000 tons of apples, as well as table grape production in Namibia. Al Dahra also has 350,000 snack tomato plants in the UAE, which provide a year-round supply. Al Dahra exports potatoes, pomegranates and dates, and grows 3 tons of organic vegetables in 300 greenhouses in the UAE.
