First European-grown Cosmic Crisp to hit shelves early next year

The first ever European-grown crop of Cosmic Crisp, Giga and RedPop will be marketed in early 2022. Two Italian companies from Alto Adige, VOG and VIP, will market Cosmic Crisp from February, while Giga and RedPop will be sold exclusively by VOG.
Hannes Tauber, head of marketing at VOG, said: “The idea is to provide consumers with top-quality apples during the second half of the season. These varieties store really well, which helps us to deliver great-tasting fruit throughout the season.”
With harvesting already underway, VOG expects a fairly balanced campaign in terms of sales this season. Italy’s production is forecast to be down by about 4% from last year.
