Egypt’s 2020/2021 table grape sector experienced a difficult season due to unexpected weather conditions. In April and May 2021, a heat wave accompanied with strong winds resulted in a 17% drop in the forecasted production, according to a FAS Cairo report. However, high demand, especially for exports, has helped to stabilise prices. The 2021/2022 crop is expected to total 1.4 million tons, while exports are projected to reach 170,000 tons. These are excising times for Egypt’s grape sector, having recently gained market access to India, Myanmar, Nepal, Brazil and Serbia.
