Interko pushes ripening innovation to new heights

Global retailers, importers, wholesalers and distributors can look forward to even more added value from their fresh fruit ripening this year thanks to recent and soon-to-be-launched innovations from Interko, the world’s foremost ripening expert.
The Dutch designer, manufacturer and installer continues to advance its market-leading technology to allow operators greater reductions on their fresh fruit ripening costs, energy consumption and product wastage, together with improved fruit quality, finish and shelf-life.
Most recently, Interko has pioneered a Containerised Ripening Room, which has been developed and tested in partnership with Fyffes to ripen up to 20 pallets of bananas, avocados or mangoes anywhere in the world. The room is constructed inside a standard insulated refrigeration container and can be moved easily by truck or ship.
Interko’s Containerised Ripening Room offers operators a mobile, space-saving and multi-functional room which benefits from a bespoke mechanical design and comes pre-fitted with Interko’s latest technology, including a unique fan system.
Shortly, Interko will launch a fail-safe ripening control system which can be used across its range of four ripening rooms. The sensor-based programme offers operators greater flexibility and responsiveness to perfect their fruit ripening cycles.
At the same time, Interko continues to install hundreds of its Ultimo, Axesso and Optimo ripening rooms worldwide. During 2021, the company installed highly sophisticated and energy-efficient ripening rooms in the Netherlands, Mexico, Colombia and Argentina, to name a few.
The rooms are cutting costs and enhancing fruit quality for various well-known retailers, importers and growers. Customers include: two Dutch distributors of avocados, a leading multinational retailer in Mexico, Mexican mango supplier Frutas Reales, a Colombian avocado producer-exporter, and Don Jaime, a major premium banana distributor in Argentina.
