Following the suspension of Afghanistan’s trade after the Taliban take-over of the country’s government, exports of fresh fruits have begun to pick up once again. The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI), along with other official government offices, have officially started work on authorising exports by land. However, exporters cannot ship by air due to the lack of available flights.
The low level of rain during this year’s key growing period should lead to a larger crop and better quality of fresh fruits for export. Taliban officials said they have halved the tax on food ingredients and have also dramatically decreased the tax on other exports and imports.
