Aldi voted UK suppliers’ favourite supermarket once again
For the eighth straight year, Aldi has been voted the UK’s leading supermarket when it comes to treating suppliers fairly, according to an annual survey by the Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA), the regulator for the sector.
The retailer was ranked first in the GCA’s annual survey regarding “overall assessment of compliance” with the Groceries Supply Code of Practice. It was also awarded its highest score in five years – scoring 98% this year, compared to a score of 97% in 2021 – highlighting its ongoing commitment to supplier relationships.
Tesco and M&S also scored strongly, with compliance scores of 97% and 96.5% respectively. The figures reflect a strong year for M&S, which was among the bottom three in 2021. This year, the lowest ranked were Lidl, Morrisons and Iceland, which scored 84%, 86% and 87%, respectively.
Aldi also remained top in the suppliers’ “assessment of whether retailers conduct trading relationships with suppliers fairly, in good faith and without duress”.
Aldi UK & Ireland boss Giles Hurley said: “We are incredibly proud of this achievement as the code reflects retailers’ relationships with suppliers, and importantly helps to ensure that they are being treated fairly. Many of our suppliers have partnered with us since we entered the UK market over thirty years ago. We fundamentally believe that these relationships should be based on fairness, trust and longevity providing certainty and security.”
