Although Russia has increased its production of grapes, the demand is far from being saturated

Since 2016, grapes production in Russia has increased by 13% from 600,000 to 682,000 tons. Domestic producers have expanded their vineyards from 91,500 to 96,800 hectares thanks to the investment allocated by the government as a part of the program aiming to substitute import food. It is estimated that the volume of grapes crop will reach 765,000 tons by 2025, if the government will continue supporting the growers.
Just two regions provides for 80% of total grapes volume in Russia, including 45% in Krasnodar region and 30% in the Republic of Dagestan (Northern Caucasus). The rest is produced in Rostov and Stavropol regions. However, insignificant 15% out of this volume is table grapes, while the main volume goes to the processing industry for wine production. As a result, Russia has to import most part of table grapes, as its annual consumption exceeds 430,000 tons.
