Armenia’s Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan is to call on the government to extend the temporary ban on Turkish imports, imposed on January 1, 2021, which is due to expire on January 1, 2022.
According to government data, Armenia imported $268 million worth of Turkish-manufactured products in 2019 and $178 million worth of Turkish goods in January-October 2020, 15% down YoY. Among these were $10.3 million worth citrus fruit.
The ban was in retaliation to Turkey’s participation and assistance to Azerbaijan in the 44-day war unleashed against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) in autumn 2020. The ban on import of Turkish goods to Armenia applies not only to legal entities but also to goods of personal use of individuals arriving in Armenia.
