ASOMAFRUT warns of possible supply problems if transportation strike continues
As Spain feels the impact of strikes by some road haulage operators, the Association of Wholesale Entrepreneurs of the Central Fruit Market of Madrid (ASOMAFRUT) has warned that, if the fruit and vegetable supply problems persist, mainly from the south-eastern areas of the country (Almería, Granada, Huelva, Málaga or Murcia), there will be a shortage of the most perishable products -strawberry, aubergine, courgette, tomato). However, for now, despite the significant reduction in the arrival of merchandise (fruit and vegetables) at its food unit, the supply of all products is currently guaranteed.
ASOMAFRUT has called on public administrations to adopt the appropriate measures to guarantee road transport for all fruit and vegetable products. It has also expressed concern about the loss of food products that this situation is causing to producers, as well as the food waste and possible price imbalances.
