China-Chile trade reaches record high in 2021
Trade between China and Chile is expected to surpass US$55 billion this year, according to a recent forecast by the Chilean Ambassador in Beijing, Luis Schmidt. The trade is driven by an FTA and cooperation in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). China is Chile’s main trading partner, with Chile becoming China’s largest supplier of raw materials and commodities such as fresh cherries, grapes, plums, copper and molybdenum ore.
With the rapid development of China’s e-commerce industry, Chilean products have become popular on major Chinese consumer platforms such as Tmall and JD.com. com, cool hippopotamus and pinduoduo, to reach a wider range of consumers.
The ambassador said: “Chile considers that the “Belt and Road” plays an important role in our bilateral relations. Furthermore, cooperation in this multilateral initiative has made important contributions to cooperation in responding to the current challenge of influenza, and will be critical to post-pandemic recovery. »
