China’s fruit imports surge in 2021
China’s fruit imports were up 23.6% YoY to $8.25 billion in the first half of 2021, according to data from the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC). Meanwhile, the value of Chinese fruit exports was also up (8.7%) to US3.25 billion.
Overall, China’s imports of many agricultural products grew considerably in the first six months of 2021. The value of imports and exports of agricultural products reached US$146.5 billion in the first half of 2021, which represents an increase of 26.4% compared to the same period in 2020.
The data highlights that Shenzhen was the largest port in terms of fruit imports, receiving just over 1 million tons of fruit in the first half of 2021, up 10.1% compared to the same period in 2020. The growth is mainly due to higher imports of cherries, grapes and oranges.
