Covirán makes progress in sustainability and waste reduction commitments
Covirán’s business model is a benchmark in sustainability, thanks to its multiple lines of work, including the modernisation of its logistics plant facilities and the transformation of stores into responsible points of sale.
The cooperative works daily to serve as an example of a circular economy model and improve the waste management system, with the aim of reducing the environmental footprint generated by its members’ work centres and its supermarkets.
In recent years there has been significant progress in different areas, mainly aimed at lowering the energy costs of supermarkets and work centres, reducing waste, optimising transport and loading work in logistics plants, and saving on consumption of water, plastic and paper.
On the occasion of the World Day of Action against Global Warming on January 28, the president of Covirán, Patro Contreras, spoke of the need to adopt preventive measures to curb climate change and the environmental impacts it causes. “It is part of our commitment and also that of our partners and clients, who are increasingly aware of a problem that affects the planet and whose solution requires the collaboration of all,” she said.
