Discovering the hidden qualities of the Italian cherry with the Fruvenh project
With the arrival of summer, the shelves return to be filled with the colors of the richest season in term of fruit and vegetable varieties, a moment in which it is essential to know how to orient yourself in order to obtain the maximum taste and healthiness.
The seasonal chromatic choice puts red in the spotlight, a color that represents strength and safety and that transmits to the consumer the certainty of doing something good for their health.
This effect in neuroscience is called priming and it is attributed to the red fruits, which allows to associate the product with positive mental connotations, often linked to well-being, healthiness but also to sweetness and goodness.
Cherries, for example, are always associated with tastiness, happiness, summer and well-being. A set of positive connotations of extraordinary value for producers. Gianluca Casadio, Marketing Manager of Apofruit, confirms this:
“Solarelli cherries are constantly increasing market shares, this due to a rigorously production in the most suitable areas and an attentive selection in order to obtain an exceptional taste. The production model makes the difference », Casadio confirms, » We have developed production and protection techniques capable of optimizing the quality of the cherries, starting first and foremost with a careful choice of varieties, optimal agronomic management and post-harvest selection. The excellent production of the Vignola area, enhanced by the PGI brand, should also be emphasized this year « .
“Cherries with the Almaverde Bio biodynamic brand and characterized by an innovative selection of very colorful varieties and with a medium-large size are also very good. We started producing biodynamic cherries under the Almaverde Bio brand a few years ago”, says Almaverde Bio Director Paolo Pari, “the consumer appreciates above all the excellent taste and the safety transmitted”.
The cherry records performances of great importance in terms of volumes purchased with a growth of + 15% in 2021 compared to 2020.
Consumers continue to purchase cherries thanks to their great contribution to health, the ease of use and the exceptional taste of a fruit capable of bringing physical and mental well-being. Cherries are fruits characterized by a high calming power. They stimulate endogenous melatonin and therefore promote the quality of sleep. They are very rich in natural antioxidants that have a positive effect on blood and heart diseases. The antioxidants they contain reduce the concentrations of RONS in the body and, consequently, decrease the likelihood of developing a number of diseases such as Alzheimer’s, cancer and diabetes.
A recent systematic analysis of scientific results on the beneficial aspects of consuming cherries published on 22 April 2022 in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows that constant consumption of cherries, exceeding 7 days a year, has a positive effect on people’s mental faculties.
