Ecuador ships fewer bananas in 2021

Ecuador’s banana exports in the first five months of 2021 fell 3% compared to the same period in 2020. According to an Accordance report, 28.5% of the volume was shipped to the EU, 20.4% to Russia, 12.7% to the Middle East, 10.9% to the US, 7% to Africa, 7% to Eastern Europe, 6% to the Southern Cone, 5% to East Asia, 1.2% to the UK, 0.8% to Oceania (New Zealand), 0.4% to EFTA (Norway), and 0.03% to Canada.
The main falls in volumes were recorded to the EU (-4.7%, Russia (-4.1%), and the Middle East (-20.6%). There was growth in exports to the US (+12.9%) and Eastern Europe (+30.2%).
