EU citrus crop to rebound

mer 30/06/2021 by Richard Wilkinson

The EU’s 2020/21 citrus crop is expected to total almost 12 million tons, which is 10.4% higher than in the previous season, according to USDA data. The rebound in output is due to favourable weather conditions. Exports are also expected to be higher on the back of increased domestic supplies, higher demand for citrus during the Covid-19 pandemic, and the reopening of the hospitality sector. Spain is the major citrus supplier to the EU market, while Switzerland, Norway, and Serbia are the main non-EU markets. The additional tariffs imposed by the US on EU citrus have been suspended, as a further boost to exports.
