Spanish fruit exporters association has registered its concerns about the impact of the recently announced embargo by Belarus on fresh produce imports from the EU. The ban comes in response to international sanctions, and also applies to the UK, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, North Macedonia, Albania, the US and Canada.
Fruit and vegetables were included in a list of banned imports along with other food categories such as meat, dairy products and confectionary.
Fepex highlighted that Belarus was one of the few non-EU markets that performed well last year. In 2020, around 5,600 tons of Spanish fresh produce were exported to Belarus, 28% more than in 2019, and were up 47% in value to €4.26m.
