Freshis brings fruits and vegetables directly from the field to the table in less than an hour
Spanish startup Freshis, which arrived in Madrid a few weeks before lockdown, has become the first platform to allow fresh fruits and vegetables to be delivered to the home directly from the farmer in less than an hour. Founded by three Spanish entrepreneurs, Lluis Puig, Pablo Engelmann and Jaume Puig, Freshis closed 2021 with more than 10,000 orders and an average of €42 per order. The startup intends to expand its business both domestically and internationally this year.
“Our start-up coincided with the closure of the country due to the first state of alarm. At that time, the whole city tried to do the shopping without leaving home and we began to distribute fruits and vegetables on our personal motorcycles, trying to satisfy all the orders that came to us,” said Engelmann, co-founder and director of operations of Freshis.
The firm was founded with the desire to be an agent of change in the fresh produce sector by creating transparency in the value chain and eliminating intermediaries and unnecessary costs. Freshis’ proposal is to shorten delivery times so that consumers can have the product in less than 18 hours from when it is harvested in the field and in less than 1 hour from when the order is placed on the platform, thus ensuring fruits and vegetables with the best level of ripening and a longer shelf life.
