Between 2017 and 2021, Italians’ purchases of organic fruit grew by 7% to reach €864 million per year, according to data presented by Riccardo Meo of Ismea. Speaking at last week’s Macfrut conference on sustainability titled: “Pac 2020 and Green Deal: Opportunities for organic farming? », Meo highlighted that fruit and vegetables remain the most represented product categories in the organic segment, accounting for a combined 46.8% of total sales (fruit: 26.8% and vegetables: 20%). Organic bananas lead the way, followed by apples, oranges, lemons, pears, walnuts, peaches, grapes, clementines, melons and kiwis.
