South Korean officials fear that Typhoon Chantu may have caused serious damage to winter crops and tangerines. Other field crops such as potatoes, broccoli, carrots, and cabbage are also expected to be lost, with diseases caused by flooding anticipated. Accordingly, the Agricultural Research and Extension Services have urged producers to drain flooded farmland of water quickly and spray with pesticides.
Yang Chang-hee, head of the citrus technology team, said:

“We need to minimise damage to crops through follow-up management following the passage of typhoons.”
