Spain imported 9.4% more fruit and vegetables in the first 5 months of 2021, according to FEPEX. Fruit imports were up by 13% to 772,000 tons, with pears and apples the main categories. Vegetable imports totalled 761,000 tons, with potatoes, beans, tomatoes, peppers, and onions, the leading products. Despite accounting for 46.7% of the total volume, imports from the EU have been falling for the past 6 years, as shipments from third countries grow, from 44.8% in 2017 to 53.8% in 2021. Morocco is the main supplier followed by Costa Rica. The main EU suppliers are France, Italy and the Netherlands.
