Volume of fresh produce sales in US fall

Retail fresh produce sales in the US surpassed the record set in 2020 in terms of value but not in terms of volume. Fresh produce prices were 6.5% higher than in 2020 as costs soar. December 2021 alone saw a 14.7% Y-o-Y increase in prices of fresh fruit.
The top sellers in 2021 were berries, which nearly doubled in sales value, followed by apples and tomatoes. Other areas with high year-on-year growth were salad kits and melons. Tomatoes, potatoes and peppers lost a little ground compared with their 2020 records.
